Primeros Cupcakes de Fondant / First Cupcakes with Fondant

I know that I said that I would not make anything else until I arrive to Spain but I can't hold back. Once you start, you never know when to stop because new ideas always appear and you see things that you want to make... but now it is true because I have packed everything in the suitcases.

After receiving the big surprise of "Mensaje en una Galleta", I was so happy inside that I thought: I have to do something!. I remembered that I had some cupcakes and fondant that I could use so I designed these three cupcakes. I believe that for being the first time I made cupcakes with fondant the result was very good, right?.

Magdalenas / Cupcakes

These days, I am not doing a lot of things because in a few days I will leave America to go back to Spain and we don't have time to eat them, we have to wait until we arrive to Geneva... Have you seen how many kms??? Now you can understand why I said " With open passport" hehehe...

Well, today I want to make a reference to the blog http://laventanademidesvan.blogspot.com.es/ because some months ago she made a cookies cake which is very popular in my family called Grandma's cake. It has this name because when we were child our grandma made it and we devoured it...Although we have grown up, this cake continues being very popular, indeed in my sister's birthday because she doesn't celebrate her birthday without her cake !!!...

In that blog you can see fantastic accessories that she makes too and If you like something you only have to ask her by e-mail (see blog).

Above, I leave a photo where you can see the cake and the link to know how to make it and enjoy it!!!

Cookies de mantequilla

¡¡¡¡Galletas!!!

Cookies!!!
Who doesn't like to eat a cookie from time to time? Who doesn't like to eat a cookie made by oneself from time to time?
Today, I needed to spend time in my kitchen and make something so I thought, Why I don't make something with the cookies cutter I bought and something that we could have for breakfast or with a coffee...
I used the Butter cookies' recipe that everyone know but I added baking powder because I wanted they blowed up a little, and why, mmm I don't know, because I opened the cupboard and I saw the baking powder and I told myself: Blown up cookies!
Ingredients:
  • 125gr sugar
  • 200gr butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 spoons of vanilla essence
  • salt
  • 400 gr flour
  • 2 spoons of baking powder
How to make them:
  • Mix the sugar with the butter.
  • When it is mixed, add the egg that you have beaten before and the vanilla essence and to follow mixing.
  • Mix the flour with the baking powder and salt and add gradually.
  • When it is mixed, knead with your hands until you have a compact dough.
  • Cover it and put it into the fridge for 1hour.
  • Preheater the oven 350ºF
  • Take out the dough and stretch it, cut it with your cookies cutters and helping you whit a spatula, put the cookies in a tray for oven.
  • Bake during 15min (the time depends of the size and thickness of the cookies) until the edges will be brown
  • Take out them and keep them in the same tray for 5 minutes more. After take out them of this tray and let them cool
  • Keep them in a metalic box.

I dyed a little of dough (before to bake it) with the Wilton branch's edible dyes. I used the gel dyes because in all the courses that I have done my teachers advise them to me and they work very well. You just need to put a little to obtain the colour that you want.

Above you have some photos of the result.

I encourage you to make them because your coffee will be more better with them!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, something funny and easy...

Ladybirds:

  • Black pitted olives
  • Cherry's tomatos
  • Cream cheese
  • Loaf bread o crakers
  • Rosemary or other herb to be similar

If you use loaf bread you have to cut each slice in 4 pieces and toast them. If you use crakers you will save this step. Spread cream cheese in the pieces.
Take a Cherry tomato and cut it in 4 pieces with the same size, for each ladybird you will use two pieces, put them into the cream cheese and if you have a black edible marker you could put them some dots to look like more real.
For the head, we will use half black olive.
Finally I put some of rosemary but if you don't have, you can put other similar herb because it's just to give it a country touch!!!

Penguins:

  • Carrots
  • Black or green pitted olives (with black it will be more real)
  • Cream cheese
  • Sticks
First, peel the carrots and cut in slices with a normal size. Put them into a microwave during 1 minute. After, for each slice cut a small triangle, we will use it for the beak (don't throw!!).
Take an olive and make it a cut, into with a small spoon you have to put cream cheese to make the stomach.
Take another olive and in her hole you put the triangule of the carrot that you cut before.
Finally, take a stick to hold up our penguin. You have to go through since the head until the legs as you can see above in the photo.
Ready our penguin.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you know, I love to arrange things and cooking, so this year in a"special" occasion I had the idea to organize a competition for my friends. It was very funny and I recommend you the idea, because even the friends who hate cooking they spent a good time in their kitchens...My friends worked very hard!!

Months before, my friends received a file with all the rules ( I prepared it very well!!) and they had their own tag names customized by myself.

They had to take part in couples, make a tapa (famous in Spain), make a very good design and a speech explaining how they made them and whatever thing that they wanted to say about their tapas.

Like in all competitions there were three winners. They got a delicious chocolate bar and a notebook where they could write down more tapas' recipes:
  1. The best tapa
  2. The best design
  3. The best speech
Above, I leave some photos about the wonders they made...As you can see, they worked a lot and I can say that their tapas were delicious. We could taste all without having stomachache!!!

At the end of the competition I gave them a sweet owl cup cake for each since I knew that they would work hard.

In short, the I Edition was a great success and some people asked me when the II Edition will be!!! I am sure it will be soon...

Today I bring a very famous recipe and I am sure that a lot of you have made in more than one occasion because: Who don't like to know how make a good a yogurt cake? whom don't like to get up and know that  there is a cake for the breakfast?mmm...

In this occasion I have made the yogurt cake adding melted chocolate to the half of pastry, because I wanted to make two floors. This cake was what I used in my Wilton course. I wrote about it in the post that I showed you yesterday.

Ingredients:
  • 250gr of sugar
  • 250gr of flour
  • 1 yogurt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 package of baking powder or 16gr
  • 1/2 measure yogurt of oil
  • Melted chocolate (quantity that you want)
  • Butter

How to make the cake:

  • Preheat the oven to 180ºC = 350ºF.
  • In a bowl, beat the sugar with the eggs.
  • Add to the mixture the yogurt and beat again.
  • Squeeze the lemon and add it in the mixture with the oil and the grated lemon rind.
  • In other bowl, mix the flour with the baking powder before to add it in the cake mixture.
  • Add the flour and baking powder in the mixture and beat.
  • Separate the half of mixture in other bowl and add the melted chocolate (bain marie).
  • Spread the butter in the baking pan to not stick and add the mixture. I have used two bowls, one for the mixture without chocolate and another for the mixture with chocolate.
  • Put the bowls into the oven during 30-35minutes. For the cake doesn't grow like a mountain, I covered it with tinfoil.

As I said to you, I used this cake to make my cake with buttercream frosting and fondant. I leave the pictures as I made the cake.

Enjoy it!

XOXO

Being in USA this summer, I thought that apart from trying to improve my english why not make some course of bakery using fondant and frosting. These are very typical here and very funny... In Spain, I have done some courses decorating cookies with icing and fondant (other day I will show you my cookies because I still keep them !!!).
Surfing on the internet I found a shop, here in USA, whose name is Michaels that it remember me the shops that the chinese people have in Spain but tidier. This, it is the typical shop that every woman would like to have close because there are of all, since papers to cover boxes, things for crafts, things to prepare differents themed parties, crochet, canvas and brushes to paint, Wilton's things and more, It a place where you can go in and leave 2 hours later, it is my case....There, I found that in July there was Wilton classes so I booked to the course 1 "Decorating basic" and the course 3 "Gum paste and fondant", they were what better schedule had for me, but in other moment I will try to make the course 2 "Flowers and Cake desing" and the course 4 "Advanced gum paste flowers". It was so funny, I have improved and learned a lot of things, since to decorate cookies and cup cakes with frosting, make flowers with gum paste until to finish making a cake with fondant and frosting that to be the first time that I made one, I am so happy.
I leave some photos where you can see how funny is and if someone want to try it I can say to you that in Spain you can do these courses too...I encourage you because really it was very funny.

XOXO
